(To print, press CONTROL + P) Sheshequin-Ulster Community Center DRAFT Meeting Minutes January 14, 2003 Attending: Laura Blain, Cathy Cook, RoseMarie Grzincic, Edward Knapp, Donald L.Roach Jr., Rick Stackhouse, Gene Weisbrod, Shari Whipple; board member absent: Rorry Colon; volunteers present: Doug Felt, Myron Brown The meeting was opened at 7:30pm by Laura. Minutes: A Knapp/Cook motion was passed to approve the minutes of November 12, 2002 and December 10, 2002 as presented. Treasurer's report: Gene presented the report for December. Prior balance reported, (November) was $6,205.24, income = $1,385.02, bills paid = $1,142.87, including the loan payment of 506.64, end of December balance = $6,447.39. The outstanding loan balance is $ 4,416.03, leaving a net available fund balance of $2,031.36. A Roach/Grzincic motion was passed to accept the treasurer's report. Laura noted that the revenue included the balance of the "rec funding" for fiscal year 2002 from the Ulster supervisors, for which she sent a thank you letter. That letter also noted our ongoing plans for bylaws revisions. Previous/Unfinished Business: Madeline's plaque: The dedication will be held on January 24 at 8:00 pm, mid-skate. RoseMarie sent invitations to members of Madeline's family, Ulster and Sheshequin township supervisors, other community leaders, and the Daily Review. She will have a reminder printed in Items of Area Interest Visit from Santa: The scheduled date (December 22) was mis- understood by "Santa" ("Yogi" Robert Westbrook), and he was unavailable, but he arranged for a replacement (Ralph Jennings of Mountain Lake.) Approximately 40 to 50 children showed up, all went well in the end. There was a nice photo in the Daily Review the following day. Monday Night Basketball: Myron stopped in, reported low turnout for basketball, and is considering cancelling. He agreed to try a few more weeks, Don roach will call the newspaper to advertise in Items of Area Interest, and will create and distribute some flyers. Rick will advertise it in the church bulletin. Saturday Night Dances: The January 11 dance was cancelled. Doug Felt will coordinate a dance for February, but because of his schedule, cannot do it on the second Saturday. Instead, a dance will be planned for February 1st. Building maintenance: Doug repaired the bathroom sink water line. The lot was plowed after snows, we are not sure who did it, perhaps Andy Bishop? A trailer is parked in the lot, Don will check with Tom Daugherty to see if it is his (for removal of arcade machines?) Trash removal is not resolved yet. Keys distribution: Don took Laura's candy closet key, and will make duplicates. Soda Machine Key: is still missing. By-Laws Revision & Re-organization (Annual) meeting: Shari began compiling a list of non-profit organizations in the two townships, and will draft a letter to invite their participation. Marlena Whipple sent an email to Laura with guidelines for bylaws, which Laura will distribute to the board before the next meeting. New Business: Press Coverage: There were negative articles in the local papers last week following an Ulster Township meeting where funding our rec center was discussed Cathy Cook responded to the supervisors with a letter outlining the prior rec board's reasons for concern over the summer program. Laura spoke with Ulster supervisor chair, Joe Perechinsky, confirming that our current interim board's understanding already was that funding was to be written into the budget but not disbursed until our bylaws are updated and the board reorganized. That remains the same, though not on the supervisors time frame. Soon after the controversial articles, the Daily Review followed up with positive coverage, including a photo-op with State Representative Tina Pickett on her visit to the scouts, and a "reorganization" feature article with photo of skaters. Rather than getting involved in a muddy debate in public, we would like to continue making an effort to publicize our events regularly to keep a positive light on what is happening at the center. The upcoming unveiling of Madeline's plaque should provide another opportunity. Stage Curtains:. Doug has been looking for someone to donate rods to hang them on, but could not find anyone willing to give them to us for nothing. It will cost about $170. A motion was passed to approve purchasing the rods for the stage curtains. Next Meeting: Will be TUESDAY, February 11, 2003, at 7:30 pm. A Knapp/Roach motion was passed to adjourn the meeting at 8:50 pm.
